BCF – May the Best BIM Win …

Following on from my BCF presentation at The BIM Day Out, its great to see even more competition in the BIM Collaboration space. European specialists KUBUS have released an updated version of their BCF manager for Revit and ArchiCAD.

Whilst this is a paid version, there is trial you can access for the month of November, which is worth checking out.

Expect some more news in the BCF space in the near future. Fellow Linkedin stalkers may have noticed that Matteo Cominetti of the amazing (and FREE) Teocomi BCF plugin fame has taken up a internship for Case Design Inc in New York. Knowing the interest that Case Design Inc have for collaborative technologies, I would not be surprised if a new and improved (but paid for) BCF manager was on the road-map shortly.

** More on BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) here at Matteo’s webpage.

KUBUS takes BIM collaboration to the next level with the release of BCF Managers for both Revit and ArchiCAD. Building Collaboration Format (BCF) allows issues found by model checking software to be easily displayed in ArchiCAD or Revit. BCF enables an efficient collaboration workflow for model quality assurance and quality control, and supports Solibri, BIMsight, Tekla Structures and DDS-CAD. The BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) plug-ins for Revit and ArchiCAD provide an efficient collaboration workflow for BIM. This approach enables issues found by Solibri Model Checker (SMC) to be easily located in the BIM authoring software and communicated to the team member responsible. Returning the file back to Solibri makes it possible to view solutions, follow mark-ups, or provide feedback.

Lookup and investigate the issues in ArchiCAD or Revit
Open the BCF file with the KUBUS BCF Manager. A simple double click on an issue takes you directly to the right view within the model authoring software. This shows the same objects as those that were selected in Solibri Model Checker. Never before have you able to locate an issue so fast!

Resolve and comment…
Fix the issue, document your changes, and set the status to ‘Resolved.’ If someone else is responsible, assign the issue to that person to approve and close the issues. Changes can be saved to the BCF file again.

…or create new issues
With BCF for Revit or ArchiCAD you can create new issues with just one click: the current 3D view is grabbed and turned into an issue with image, viewpoint, selected objects, etc. Just add your comment and assign it to the person responsible.

Send in your changes & additions
When you’re done with the issues, save them again as a BCF file and inform the project manager or other team members. You will probably need to provide a new IFC version of your model as well.
